Jane Lecroy is a NYC based poet, singer, performance artist and home-birthing mother of 3, who fronts the avant-pop band, The Icebergs, and the spontaneous experimental music project, Ω▽Ohmslice. She has toured with the SF based, all women’s poetry troupe, Sister Spit. She also performs a featured character at Poetry Brothel NYC. Among her many publications and recordings, her chapbook, Names, was published by the art-book house Booklyn, in the award winning, ABC chapbook series, that was purchased by the Library of Congress along with her braid! Three Rooms Press published, Signature Play, a multimedia book of lyrical poems, including a nomination for a Pushcart Prize. Marilyn Torres hails from Harlem, New York. She’s graced the stage in plays such as Water By The Spoonful at The Old Globe, Breath Boom at Yale Rep, Agony of the Agony at The Vineyard, Bike America at The Alliance Theater and Ma-Yi Theater. Film credits include Maid in Manhattan, Lady in the Water, Bella, Bernard & Doris, The Arrangement, Musical Chairs and Home. She’s had principle roles on Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, The Unusuals, Flight of the Concord, Third Watch and The Chris Rock Show. Ms. Torres was also part of The Downtown Plays produced by Robert Dinero. She is recipient of The HBO Comedy Arts Jury Award for the theater piece, Late Night, Early Morning. Marilyn has written solo shows called I Have Something to Say and Unzipped. Her monologues have been featured on ShowTime at the Apollo and HBO Latino Campaign. When not acting, Ms. Torres serves as a teaching artist in New York City. She can next be seen on Netflix’s Dare Devil.
Rylan Sylvester got her comedic start doing college improv in 2014. This will be Rylan’s second time performing in La MaMa’s Poetry Electric Series. She has also performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade, the Brooklyn Comedy Collective (the Brick Theater, Cantina Royal) and the PIT Theater. The Poetry Electric fuses music, movement, sound, and dance with the spoken word and presents artists working in a wide range of styles including beatboxing, jazz and hip-hop theatre. This series has presented over 200 emerging poets from diverse cultural backgrounds.
