The Mountain Bird (“Fjeldfuglen”) is an evening-length staging of Henrik Ibsen´s 1859 unfinished opera libretto, which received its world-premiere in 2009 by the Grusomhetens Teater (Theater of Cruelty). This avant-garde opera´s Romantic narrative is inspired by a medieval Norwegian legend of a woman discovered to be the sole survivor of the Black Death.
Theatre of Cruelty produced its first performance in collaboration with Trøndelag Theatre in 1989, and was established as a separate group in 1992. The company has performed at festivals and stages in Japan, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Poland, England, Sweden, India and France.
