La Galleria: Advection By Eileen Lang

a black arrow pointing downward

For Eileen Lang’s second exhibition with La MaMa Galleria, the artist presents a series of new paintings in acrylic and ink. When these liquids are permitted to direct their own motion, the results are genuine and natural. In Advection, Lang explores this process by encouraging pigment and paper to mingle and direct their own paths. Advection draws its inspiration from natural landscapes, East Asian ink wash painting, and the complexity of the materials themselves. The results are beautiful compositions, full of energy and emotion unique to the eyes that are laid upon them.

Founded in 1984, La Galleria is a nonprofit gallery committed to nurturing experimentation in the visual arts. La Galleria encourages an active dialogue between new media, performance, the plastic and visual arts, curatorial projects, and educational initiatives. It serves the East Village community by offering diverse programming to an inter-generational audience, and expanding the parameters of a traditional gallery space. As a non-profit, La Galleria is able to provide artists and curators with unique exhibition opportunities that are largely out of reach in a commercial gallery setting.
