ABOUT

Sharing birth stories, or family origin stories, has become a passion over the years; stemming from my work as a Doula and my realization (as a result of this work) that we have so few places in our society to listen to, or to voice these stories. To share a personally resonant example, when I was first collecting birth stories for my play TOKOPHOBIA way back in 2017, I had the good fortune to record my own mother sharing her memories and experience with my birth. My Mom died in 2022 due to complications with endometrial cancer, and on my birthday that year (her BIRTH-day) I listened to this story and felt held in a way I had not even realized was possible.

These. Stories. Are. Powerful. And it would be our honor to hear them and share them with you. We will be presenting an Immersive Family Origin Story Experience, and Families of all types – chosen Families included – are invited. So children, bring your parents! Parents, bring your children! Bring your neighbor! Childhood best friend! Partner! Any configuration that means Family to you. We will be engaging in simple oral storytelling exercises, and building visual aids to assist with non-verbal storytelling techniques. All ages are welcome, but as we will be dealing with some shadow puppet materials, we recommend ages 6 and up.
