Lavinia Co-op (#84)

Born and raised in England,Lavinia got involved in the "Gay movement" as quite a young man.He was one of the founding members of a gay theater company named Bloolips.Throughout the early 70's and 80's they toured Northern Europe and Scandinavia.They soon triumphed in New York.The group relied on their background of English Pantomime and Music Hall.The shows were made up of bits and pieces of songs and routines new and invented.Their fame grew as the costumes and make up became more lavish and gained them a favorable reputation. 

"Shows were mad story lines with homemade costumes and things
  found or put together
  all that glitters!  six vaudville/music hall toe tapping drag queens 
  plots were to be found or improvised, scripts flew off the
  wall and we changed lyrics to old songs"

Lavinaia is currently to be found at the Telephone Bar and Grill 149 2nd Ave at 10th St-the last Thursday of each month at 10 pm


The La MaMa Coffeehouse Chronicles are held in "The Club" at La MaMa ETC.  In our intimate 99-seat cabaret/ coffee house/ theatre space, Coffeehouse Chronicles presents personal accounts of the history and development of the Experimental, International & Off-Off Broadway Theatre scene in NYC and at La MaMa from early 70s by the individuals who created them.
