“Like Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, there's something very 4-a.m.-in-the-city about The Mess You Made," says Ig, Grammy® nominated organist of the band Oh My God. “Postell's impossibly flexible rhymes play with the measure like a cocky cat with a wounded mouse. His attitude shifts from the confrontational to the vulnerable, waxing and waning above the calm seas painted by AbCents. Relaxed drumbeats pierce through hazes of guitars, keyboards and wordless voices…In a word: there's both history and mystery in these sounds. Great record.” AbCents + Postell, make hip-hop that’s melodic and equal parts boisterous and subtle. The Mess You Made is beats, rhymes and life for the Obama era.
AbCents + Postell will celebrate the internet release of their new LP @ La MaMa Club in the east village with a short set of songs from the album, book-ended by DJ sets from the duo. The Mess You Made is a big, sprawling, ambitious, aptly titled mess of a record. It's Sandinista, Joe's Garage, or Labcabincalifornia. Stylistically and thematically ‘here, there and everywhere’, its creator’s talents, musical charisma and dedication to thoughtful innovation hold these tracks together. Their collaboration has resulted in music that is simultaneously classic and relevant. Fresh and just plain fun The Mess You Made is an album that will make you bob your head, rap along and look at the world a little bit differently.
AbCents is a Bermuda born producer/beat maker. His previous album was the ‘09 instrumental LP, Cents 1983. Postell is a producer/emcee from Decatur, GA. Both live in Brooklyn, NY. His previous solo release was ‘07’s The Good Thief. As an actor he last appeared at La MaMa Etc. in Hercules In High Suburbia (NY Fringe Winner) and across the street in NY Theatre Workshop’s The Seven (Obie & Lucille Lortel Award Winner). This is their inaugural collaborative album.
