JOHN MORAN AND HIS NEIGHBOR SAORI & JOSEPH KECKLER'S CAT LADY
February 25, 2008
Monday at 8pm
John Moran and Saori & Joseph Keckler team up for a one-night double bill.
Preeminent composer John Moran and collaborator, dancer Saori Tsukada present a one-night performance of their acclaimed duo, John Moran and His Neighbor Saori, which will then proceed to London\'s Soho Theatre for a two-week run. Previously the piece played an award-winning month of performances through August at Scotland \'s Edinburgh Festival, and in 2006 played to sold-out houses at Ireland \'s Dublin Fringe.
And fresh from performing at The San Francisco MOMA in the series Weimar New York, performance artist and singer Joseph Keckler will present his solo show Cat Lady, directed by Elizabeth Gimbel, which recently ran at Dixon Place Theater and was performed at San Francisco\'s Marsh Theater.
ABOUT JOHN MORAN AND HIS NEIGHBOR SAORI: A portrait of Moran and Tsukada\'s friendship. At turns intimate, moving, and startling, the piece features Moran\'s signature style: Highly choreographed miming that is synchronized to a complex musical score, partially composed of everyday noises and conversations.
ABOUT CAT LADY: new solo in which a storyteller narrates an afternoon in the home of his mother, who has created a psychological theater, of sorts, where cats are the actors. Past lives are recalled, songs are sung, and finally a trip to the vet\'s is made in this humorous and dark exploration of the relationship between art and trauma. The play is one of an ongoing series which center around banality and redemption in small-town Michigan .
