The LGBT Cancer Project presents its Inaugural event, “Hot for Health” at La MaMa ETC on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. The Cocktails and Cabaret Benefit, sponsored by Logo, features award-winning actress/playwright Lisa Kron and several surprise performers.
According to The LGBT Cancer Project Executive Director, Liz Margolies, “While the LGBT community has successfully focused on the challenges of HIV/AIDS, cancer has been sadly neglected.” In fact, lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people have dramatically increased cancer rates, coupled with decreased screening rates, resulting in cancer being detected at a later stage with a worse prognosis. The LGBT Cancer Project is the first and only program in the country addressing the risks, treatment and survivorship issues of the entire LGBT population. “Hot for Health” will be an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer in the LGBT community in an informal and entertaining format.
“Hot for Health” begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by a cabaret performance featuring Lisa Kron, author and leading performer of hit Broadway show, Well and other notable artists to be announced. “Hot for Health” will be held at La MaMa ETC, 74A East Fourth Street in New York City.
