“Party Time,” is intelligent—and thwacking good—theater.
- Jonathan Warman, NY Blade
The Talking Band will present its production of
PARTY TIME, a music-theater work written and directed
by Paul Zimet, composed by Peter Gordon, with video by
Kit Fitzgerald. The cast features William Badgett and Joe
Roseto. Set design is by Lino Fiorito and Lights by
Lenore Doxsee.
Frankie and Sal are soldiers in an armored combat
vehicle engaged in a desert war. The information they
receive about their allies, their enemies and the
surrounding terrain, is transmitted to them by the
electronic equipment of the tank - radio, radar, and
video. Yet they are revealed in the most human of
situations - two people facing death. Frankie’s and
Sal’s journey is a descent into hell, but there are
diversions, comedy, and, even, epiphanies along the
way. They find themselves in increasingly bleak and
brutal circumstances, in which their own actions are,
at times, appalling, yet, paradoxically, they also
sense with greater intensity their fragile and
precious mortality.
PARTY TIME is a production of The Talking Band,
the OBIE and BESSIE award winning New York based
theater company that has been producing innovative
interdisciplinary work for thirty-three years. PARTY
TIME premiered in New York City at Performance Space
122 in June, 1996. In October 2005 The Talking Band
presented this new production of PARTY TIME at the
Napoli Scena Internazionale, a festival of the arts in
Naples, Italy.
***Following the Sunday matinee performances, three
artists present works which powerfully transmit –without polemics – how our lives are shaped by
politics. These events are free to ticket holders for
PARTY TIME.
