The New York premiere of MAMILLIUS –
a new drama reconstructed from Shakespeare’s The Winters Tale. Adapted
and directed by Sheldon Deckelbaum, this bold, inventive reconstruction
of Shakespeare's verse is illuminated through the pre- pubescent lens
of the young prince Mamillius, who dies in Act III of the original play.
Bringing together the imaginative powers
of seven actors, using original music and choreography, it tells a story
of sexual fantasy, consuming jealousy, irrational violence, terrifying
loss, but ultimately celebration and promise. Only through the mystery
of art and a child’s desperate wish to restore the union of his
parents can this “winter's tale” find grace and redemption.
MAMILLIUS stars Diane Ciesla
(Paulina/Mariner/Older Polixenes), Dan Cordle (Leontes/Shepherd),
Adriean Delaney (Polixenes/Court Officer/Florizel), Deb
Heinig (First Lady/First Lord/Clown), Meg Howrey
(Hermione/Perdita), Reginald Metcalf (Antigonus/ Camillo),
and introducing 8 1/2 -year-old Raum-Aron in the title role.
With choreography by MaryBeth Cavanaugh
and music by Daniel Baker, MAMILLIUS features scenic design by Sandra
Goldmark, costume design by Camille Assaf and lighting design by Hilary
Manners.
