“Dreaming the sea”, is the most
recent show wretten by D’Ambrosi, with Lorenzo Alessandri and D’Ambrosi
himself in the play.
The play recounts the story of two characters, Tommaso, a mute, and Giulio
who is physically sane. The two find joy thinking that soon they will
go to sea.
They excite themselves with their summer recollections while awaiting
their departure, which will never arrive.
Tommaso and Giulio are, infact, residents of a mental hospital. They fantasie
and allude to their past travels though neither one has ever seen the
sea.
An erruption of the reality makes clear to the audience that the two “travelers”
are unwell, yet their behavior and their language demonstrates how fragile
is the passage between mental illness and sanità.
The two actors (D’Ambrosi and Alessandri) create the festive climate
that accompanies the summer to the sea. Theirs is a ritual that bridges
the astute with the ironical.
