What RIMT is:
-8 composers and 8 writers are randomly paired on an evening.
-They are given some guidelines on creating a new short music theatre piece.
-They write it in under 48 hours.
-The writers have 3 days for rewrites.
-The performers have 4 days for rehearsal with 2 directors and 2 music directors.
-They present the new pieces to the public a week after the first reading.

Raw Impressions Music Theatre (RIMT) will perform "Event #3," an evening of music theatre scenes that have been conceived, collaborated on, composed, rehearsed and memorized in the last seven days.

RIMT is conducting a series, planned to be a monthly gathering of Playwrights, Composers and Performers who come together in order to create new work to be shown to the public. RIMT grew out of the nationally recognized program "The Composer/Librettist Studio" sponsored in New York by New Dramatists. In March of last year, the two founders of RIMT, David Rodwin and Patrick Mellen, participated in the Studio. Rodwin, a composer/writer, and Mellen, a performer, created RIMT with a mind to build on the ideas of collaboration and spontaneity that such a forum invites.

Eight composers and eight writers are randomly paired on a Friday evening. They are given some guidelines in creating a new music theatre piece. The first draft is sight read by 10 actor/singers that Sunday afternoon. The writers have 3 days for rewrites. The performers have 3 days for rehearsal with 2 directors and 2 music directors. They then present the new pieces to the public a week after the first reading.

RIMT believes in music theatre being an immediate community experience and a reflection of what's going on around us right now – not filtered by anyone and not hampered in a lengthy process before the audience receives it. Participants in RIMT have had productions at venues from BAM to Lincoln Center and have received awards including the Guggenheim, Rockefeller, Richard Rogers and Jonathan Larsen Awards.

RIMT Mission Statement:
We are committed to artists being prolific with excellence. We are also committed to music theatre being an immediate community experience and a reflection of what's going on around us right now - not filtered by anyone and not hampered in a lengthy process before the audience receives it. Finally, we're committed to bring together our artistic community through creating an opportunity for artists to take risks and work with new collaborators.
