JOHN JESURUN began
his theatrical career at the Pyramid Club on the Lower East Side with his acclaimed
serial play CHANG IN A VOID MOON, now in its 52nd episode. Since 1984 he
has written and directed and designed over 20 plays,many at La Mama, including:
NUMBER MINUS ONE, RED HOUSE, SHATTERHAND MASSACREE, SUNSPOT, IRON LUNG, POINT
OF DEBARKATION, SOUTHERN CROSS, PHILOKTETES, LUMIERE, OJO CALIENTE, and the
media plays DEEP SLEEP (1986 Obie Award, Best Play), WHITE WATER, DOGS
EYE VIEW, SLIGHT RETURN, BLACK MARIA, EVERYTHING THAT RISES MUST CONVERGE, BLUE
HEAT, FAUST/HOW I ROSE and SNOW. His company has toured extensively in Europe
and the United States. He is the recipient of numerous grants including the
Rockefeller,NEA, Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships. . He has collaborated
with various artists including Mollisa Fenley,Martin Acosta, Jeff Buckley,Ron
Vawter and Christian Marclay. Last year Jesurun staged the concert performance
of Roy Nathansons Jazz Suite FIRE AT KEATONS BAR AND GRILL featuring
Debby Harry and Elvis Costello at St. Anns in Brooklyn and Royal Festival
Hall in London. His play WHITE WATER has just opened in Mexico City. He is currently
collaborating with composer Mikel Rouse on an opera, THE END OF CINEMATICS,
premiering fall 2002 at the Eclectic Orange Festival, Costa Mesa, California
followed by performances at BAMs Next Wave Festival.
