Experiments Play Reading Series
The Experiments play reading series has provided a forum for talented playwrights and theatre makers to continue their creative process. The Monday night readings give emerging artists the opportunity to hear their developing works read by professional actors and receive valuable audience feedback. Experiments remains an artist driven service organized around shifting themes to allow a larger, under-served theater community to experience a greater diversity of programming.

The 26th Season of La MaMa’s Experiments Play Reading Series is themed Voices of Resistance. This season will spotlight playwrights whose work challenges systemic oppression, confronts censorship, and amplifies marginalized narratives being silenced by the current political climate. These are artists who dare to disrupt, provoke, and inspire through fearless storytelling.
Email new play submissions to lamamaexperiments@gmail.com for consideration. Please submit scripts in PDF format.
We are only interested in plays in development that have never been read for a New York audience.
Experiments Play Reading Series 2024–2025 is supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature with additional support from the Howard Gilman Foundation, The John Golden Fund, and The Shubert Foundation.
